• I’ve just moved my new site from a subdirectory to the root directory. At first everything looked alright. The images were in place and when I checked their file paths, they were correct for the root directory.

However, now I’m trying to add new images. When uploaded to the media library, a thumbnail is created showing only the grey background, but the name, image size and URL are correct. On checking the uploads file in cpanel, there’s nothing there.

What is happening is that a new folder is being created with the same name as the subfolder that the site was made in – eg. mysite/newsite.com. Inside the subfolder is the usual folder setup – mysite/newsite.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10. The newly uploaded images are going there. I can move them to the folder mysite/wp-content/uploads/2016/10, then they show in the media library and can be attached to posts and pages.

Does anyone know how I can fix this? thank you

I think I’ve fixed it! I searched wp-options in the database and found the uploads path was still showing the old directory.
