I’ve been reading some of the previous posts on installing WP to GoDaddy trying to find a solution or common problem. But have not been successful at this time. This is what I have done. The MySQL step and renaming the file and using the wizard. Then I uploaded the files to the root underneath the public_html folder. Now I’m stuck. I tried websitename.com/wp-admin and websitename/admin. Not sure where to go from here. However, I wasn’t sure if I put the files in the right root area. I also wasn’t sure what file was considered the WP directory mentioned in step four. I’m on a mac. Uploaded the files via Filezilla.

    TIA
    JoDee ??

  • Have you tried going straight to domain_name/wp-admin/install/php?

what do you mean migration ? make sure after copy wordpress file and export the database, change site url in your database, usually in wp_options table

I tried the web address you suggested and I get the file not found 404 message.

I tried it again after I created a new database and deleted the first one I did. Now I receive this message…

    Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

I did do a check of the database and it came up with no errors.

The first step in the directions is to download WP and then upload those files to your root in GoDaddy. That would be the migration that I did.

I have exported the database – can you advise on the next step? Do I upload it into a specific file on the root of the domain?

How do you change the site url in your database? Where do I locate wp_options table?

    Thank you for your help.

I think I may have just figured this out and I need to edit the wp-config.php file. Let me give this a whirl.

    Thank you for your patience.

I have made the changes as instructed in the wp-config.php file.

I re-downloaded the database to be a SQL file versus a CSV file and uploaded that to the root and not in a specific folder.

I went back to the domain_name/wp-admin/install/php and still receive the Error establishing a database connection message.

    Thoughts? Next steps?

“Error establishing a database connection” means that there is a problem with the connection to your database and there could be a number of reasons for this.

Try reviewing the following codex for possible reasons and solutions: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Common_WordPress_Errors#Error_Establishing_Database_Connection

    emh,

    if it’s about migrations
    1. you can copy file wordpress to your hosting,
    2. export your database to phpmyadmin in your hosting, also first create user and database
    3. change old url to new url in “wp_options” table
    4. open config.php in directory website, change the usename, password, host, database name

    if it’s about instalations
    1. copy any file wordpress to your hosting,
    2. create user and database,
    3. access your website, your domain website and follow every step for install

Can you share some screenshots regarding the location where you have kept the WP files and also the wp-config file ?

Hi all – I came across a YouTube video that helped me with my situation. The app icon in GoDaddy is deceiving due to it being labeled as blog. So I followed the YouTuber’s instructions as he used that for building his website which was not blog based. Thank you for the help.

Here is the series of videos that I followed so far. Hope they help out someone else.
