  • Did you install WordPress on your GoDaddy hosted site yet? If you haven’t, you’ll need to do that first, and I believe that option is available through Cpanel.

Here is a great place to start ??

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Using_Themes

Additionally, as mentioned in the above link, check with the theme developer as they may have instructions specific to their product.

I take this to be a question about use of a paid theme, rather than the ones you are used to from WP. So, assuming you already have WordPress installed, you can upload the theme in the dashboard. Assuming you downloaded the paid theme to your computer and it’s in a zip file, just go to Dashboard/Appearance/Themes/Add New/Upload Theme. Browse as usual.

If that’s not your question, sorry.

Thank you I have the theme but its not giving the option to upload new theme. and that is exactly my question im new to this whole thing. ??

If you have WordPress installed, the option is there in your WordPress in Dashboard/Appearance/Themes/Add New/Upload Theme.

gisscorp, you need to upload it using an FTP client. Once you connect to your server, you browse to the /wp-content/themes/ directory and upload the directory with your new theme to there.

Once you have done that, you will see your new theme as a new option to Activate when you go to https://www.yourdomain.com/wp-admin/themes.php

    Good luck!

Dave – You can do it that way, but you don’t have to, do you?

how do i get to /wp-content/themes/

Sorry, yes. You can also use the uploader at /wp-admin/theme-install.php?upload (which it looks like you just suggested) – I should have mentioned that as an option ??

Not knowing what permissions people have in their hosting environments, I never rely on the uploaders and typically just stick to FTP.

Gisscorp, we have established that you don’t need to do it via ftp, but if you want to, that would be through your cpanel. You’ll find file manager there and you can use it like you would Windows Explorer. Be careful, since you’re new. That’s a place where you can do some damage. In the WP dashboard, you really can’t.

It’s possible that you will see the domain name as a folder, but I’m guessing that you did a default installation and you will not see that. You will find the WP files under public_html.

I’d try the WP route first while you get your feet wet.

    This is so complicated lol

It’s not gisscorp. You’ll be an old pro in no time. Just log in to your WP installation and navigate to your themes area. Much safer and easier.

The issue here, for future questioners/posters, was confusion between self-hosting (hosting on godaddy) and buying a domain name through godaddy and redirecting it to WordPress.com.

The theme upload does not exist in WordPress.com’s dashboard, but there was no hope of using FTP with WP.com either. It’s not an uncommon point of confusion.

That also applies to offering to take a look too.

    Ok
