uploading an image file

  • WordPress seemed to have installed fine, but when trying to upload a header image (or any image to media) I get this error…

    Warning: touch() [function.touch]: Unable to create file D:\Hosting\8996629\html/wp-content/main.tmp because Permission denied in D:\Hosting\8996629\html\wp-admin\includes\file.php on line 177
    The uploaded file could not be moved to D:\Hosting\8996629\html/wp-content/uploads.

    Server: iis
    Hosting: godaddy

  • Gave the directory 777 permissions so that Apache could create files and folders beneath it.

    I am not using apache, I am using IIS

    Alrite then give enough permission to upload directory

    I gave 777 to everything, and still doesn’t work….
    I used filezilla to give 777 to everything. But the server is ISS.
    I think permissions on ISS dont work like that! right?

    You’re right, permissions on a Windows hosting plan are managed differently. Read this article from the Go Daddy Community for more information – https://x.co/h62q

    You’ll see that you set permissions by folder, not individual files.

    As a sidenote, I would recommend you switch to a Linux hosting plan for any WordPress site or other PHP-based content. You’ll get better performance in general, and I’d expect you to also have fewer permissions issues. If you have ASP or .NET code running on the server, you’ll need a Windows plan, but otherwise, you shouldn’t have any problem switching to Linux.
