• I might be looking for a plugin, but I’m posting this here just in case theres a way to do it that I dont know about.

I want to be able to upload images from URLs, rather than having to save them to my system, browse for them, and upload from there.

Is there a way to do this?

  • Hello Chase,

You can upload an image from URL..for that first upload image to web server and then go the upload image option. There is an option to upload an image from URL through which you just need to provide uploaded image URL.

    That’s it!

Thanks for the response, but if you are talking about the “Upload/Insert” buttons at the top of the posting page, that is creating an offsite link.

WordPress is just linking to the image, rather than capturing/uploading it to my webserver and creating a new link.

    Thanks though!

    I may need a plugin…

I figured it out. Apparently you can already do it.

Just do it as if you were uploading a file from your computer, but when the file browser pops up, rather than clicking a file, just paste the url into the text field.

It hang for a few seconds, but it works! And it wont just link through the url, it actually uploads it…

Is there a plugin that will allow mac users to do this?
OSX browsers do not have an input field in the browse file / upload pop up window?

Chase, you’re the man. I was looking to figure out the same but didn’t even think to paste the URL into the input line, works like a charm (and saves a ton of time!).

Are there any plugins for this for folks who are on Mac/Linux? Doesn’t work using Firefox on Ubuntu.

Any idea on how to get it to work via the file chooser box?
