I have moved my domain from one hosting company to the other. But I didn’t know the existed website will just stay behind. So now I have been told that I need to manually get the databases and backup uploaded.

The previous provider/hosting company got the back up and databases for me, but I talked to 2 employees of that company and they gave me different backups and databases. That is one.

Then the new company to use Updraft Plus which would make it easy. Well… not at all! I don’t understand what to do at all.

So the steps I’ve taken are:

    • moving my domain to the other company
    • got the databases and backup from the previous company which I installed on my computer
    • downloaded the plugin of Updraft Plus in WordPress under the domain of warrior-of-life.com
    • and then???

    Who could help me out?

    Regards, Yvette

    Hello,

I have visited your website and note that it appears to be a blank WordPress installation. If you would like to restore the backups, open UpdraftPlus >> Backup / Restore >> Upload backup files.

Drag and drop your backups onto the upload widget and then wait for them to upload. After the backups have uploaded, click the Restore button and follow the process to complete the restoration.

    But UpdraftPlus doesn’t accept the files… So I can’t upload anything…

    Hello,

I am sorry to hear about this, what happens when you try to upload the files as described above?

Seems to be I can’t add an image. So in text:

    I have 1 .tar-file of 1,7gb

    I have 1 .tar.gz-file of 1.5gb

    I have 1 .sql-file of 17mb

    Hello,

Please could you try using an image sharing service like this to share a screenshot or provide the filenames of your backups please?

    Yes, they are:

    warripw1_WPKYX.sql

    sitebackup.tar

    backup-8.18.2024_04-30-25_warripw1.tar.gz

    Hello,

Thank you for confirming the filenames. Unfortunately, those files aren’t UpdraftPlus backups, so you won’t be able to restore your site using the plugin.

I recommend reaching out to your new hosting provider for assistance with manually restoring your site from the backup files you have.

Once your site is restored, I strongly suggest using UpdraftPlus to create offsite backups to a secure location like Dropbox or Google Drive. This will make it much easier to restore your site in the future.

Thanks a lot for your support! I’ve requested the previous hosting company to use UpdraftPlus, but they said it’s not possible now? I’ve noticed that it would be much easier. I’m even thinking of getting my domain back to them, install UpdraftPlus myself and then get my backups that way. But maybe that’s not a good idea…

    Hello,

You’re welcome. Hopefully your new hosting company will be able to assist you, most reputable hosting companies are good at helping new customers with restoring sites in this way.

Well, so far they haven’t helped me and told me I have to look for someone who has the knowledge… Weird…

I’ve just posted a complaint on their Facebook-page about it. Let’s see what they will do…

For now, this topic can be closed. Thanks again!
