Uploading fails to HTTP Error or login screen with files over 8MB.

    So. I’m using WordPress 2.8.3.

    I have red trough all the threads I could find about this error, but the problem remains.

    When I upload files < 8MB, the uploaders work ok. With bigger ones they fail. With Chrome / FF login screen pops up when the “crunching” begins. With IE I get the HTTP Error.

    Here is what I’ve tried to correct this:

    1. First WP told me that there wasn’t enough memory -> I fixed the htaccess with following: 

    php_value upload_max_filesize 81388608
php_value post_max_size 81388608
php_value max_execution_time 1500
php_value max_input_time 1500
php_value memory_limit 81388608

    2. I also added the 

    <IfModule mod_security.c>
<Files async-upload.php>
SecFilterEngine Off
SecFilterScanPOST Off
</Files>
</IfModule>

    3. I checked with phpinfo, that all the values are changed.

    4. I checked the upload paths at wp, it is wp-content/uploads.

    5. I added define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '60MB'); to wp-config

    Nothing helps, and this should be ready this week – any ideas?

    If I use the browser upload (not flash), it just stops when the file is uploaded. No errors, nothing, with > 8M files.

    So … to be absolutely sure, I just re-installed the WP, then added following to the .htaccess:

    php_value upload_max_filesize 81388608
php_value post_max_size 161388608
php_value max_execution_time 1500
php_value max_input_time 1500
php_value memory_limit 161388608

# END WordPress

    The problem appears, so it can not be related to any plugin or corrupted WP-files.

    Problem solved! Finally.

    So. The key was to modify the php.ini file. On my server I can make custom .ini files to a folder _custom_php_settings.

    What I did not know was, that the settings have to be set in every folder, where they are needed. In this case the file called upload.php is processing the uploaded files.

    Upload.php can be found from wp-admin -folder, so I copied the new .ini -settings there. Problem solved. The same should work with the .htaccess -file.

    My php.ini file:

    post_max_size = 100M
upload_max_filesize = 50M
memory_limit = 100M
