Everything was going great, and then I updated to 3.7 and I can’t upload media anymore. I click on the “Add Media” and there is no capability to add files. This isn’t happening with my sites that I didn’t update to 3.7.

I’ve disabled plug-ins, deleted plug-ins, cleared the cache, exited out of my browser, changed the wp-admin/plugins file name to plugins.hold and then back again after logging in, tried to change my theme, gone back to the default theme… everything that these forums have suggested to no avail.

Help!! My blog is image heavy and I’m dead in the water right now.

    Have you tried:
    – deactivating ALL plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s). If you can’t get into your admin dashboard, try deactivating via FTP or SFTP or whatever file management application your host provides. If applicable, also remember to deactivate any plugins in the mu-plugins folder. The easiest way is to rename that folder to mu-plugins-old.
    – To rule out any theme-specific issue, try switching to the unedited default, core-bundled Theme (such as Twenty Twelve or Twenty Thirteen) for a moment using the WP dashboard. If you don’t have access to your admin area, you can switch to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using via FTP or SFTP or whatever file management application your host provides. Alternately, you can remove other themes except the default theme. That will force your site to use it.
resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems (because the hooks remain unless plugins completely removed or some plugins stick around in cached files. So by renaming the folder, you break them and force them inactive).
    – If the above troubleshooting steps fail to resolve the issue, try manually re-uploading all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones. Read the Manual Update directions first!
Always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case.

Hi – I did the steps as listed above and still struggling to upload images. Out of 20plus uploads attempted in the last 24 hours, only 2 were successful.

    any advice would be appreciated.

    – Check the error logs on your server for a more specific error message. If you need help locating them, ask your hosting provider to help you with that.

I did everything you mentioned except re-uploading all the files. I will try that, but honestly, based on the searches I’ve done of the forums, I think there is a glitch in 3.7.

Again, none of my other sites are having this issue, and the only change I made to this one was updating to 3.7.

I click on the “Add Media” and there is no capability to add files.

    What happens?

Out of 20plus uploads attempted in the last 24 hours, only 2 were successful.

What was different about these files?

I think there is a glitch in 3.7.

Since it is working fine for a great number of users it is most likely a local issue.

I click on “Add Media” and instead of getting the screen where I have the ability to upload files or view my media library, there is a blank screen with just the “Insert Media” “Create Gallery” “Set Featured Image” etc. along the left side of the screen. Clicking on those options does nothing.

eckyoga@gmail was able to upload 2 of his/her twenty, but I haven’t been able to get any to upload. Now if I want to set a new header image I can browse and upload via that method, but no images under Add Media.

I’m going to try to manually re-install WordPress, but I have a sinking feeling that something is going to go very wrong.

Oh, and I went to my error log and there were no errors.

“Insert Media” “Create Gallery” “Set Featured Image” etc. along the left side of the screen

That is part of the screen and would indicate the possibility of a file not being correct.

Could you be more specific as to what file would be incorrect?

I just reinstalled WordPress and the problem is still there. I give up.

What’s the site URL? Where is it hosted?

    HostGator

I’m restoring the backup right now so there isn’t anything to see right now.

Aargh! I ditched IE and downloaded Chrome. Problem solved. Now I just have to reconstruct everything I tore down trying to solve this problem.

Something in the interaction between WordPress 3.7 and IE 11 there is a disconnect.

Ditch IE, download Chrome or Firefox.

    Ditch IE

    +1 :).

Glad it wasn’t something worse. I’ve heard some IE11 complaints elsewhere – not sure if they were resolved.

@gatorgrrl IE11 works pretty good here. If you want to get to the bottom of this:
    – open the dev. tools (F12),
    – select the “Console” (second button on the left),
    – reload the page holding down Ctrl (to refresh),
    – open the media popup and see if there are any JS errors.

If there are any, please paste them in a comment here.

I downloaded Chrome, problem went away. Problem solved as far as I’m concerned. Won’t ever use IE again — too many problems to give it a second, or third chance. There are too many other good options.
