• Hi I’m new to wordpress.
Just started a blog using webpress as host.
How do I use a theme available from another website?
    Thanks.

  • Hi,
Did you try to use first some of the theme that are available in the WordPress Directory?

    Hi doron1974, samboll.
    Thanks.
I’m currently using a default theme from wordpress, and as mentioned before wordpress (rather than webpress) is hosting my blog.
After downloading a theme, where do I upload this to?
With wordpress as host, i can only change the themes with a selection of other themes they have provided.
Also how do i change elements of the blog using the dashboard?

    Thanks so much.

Simpley download some themes and upload them to the wordpress\wp-content\themes\ folder of your installation and they will be available to you in your admin panel for use. In your admin panel you can try them before actually installing them by jut clicking on any one.

I am also new to WP – tried to upload a couple themes vai ftp to my host to the /wordpress/wp-content/themes folder. I can see the two new theme folders in the directory along with the classic and default WP theme folder. But neither of the new themes are accessible thru the admin. These are the files in one of the theme folders:

    ???’??404.php
    style.css
    archive.php
    archives.php
    author.php
    comments.php
    footer.php
    functions.php
    header.php
    ie6.css
    ie6hoverfix.htc
    ie6pngfix.htc
    ie7.css
    image.php
    images
    index.php
    js
    lang
    links.php
    logo.png
    options
    page-3col.php
    page-hidecomments.php
    page-nosidebar.php
    page.php
    readme.txt
    screenshot.png
    search.php
    searchform.php
    sidebar.php
    sidebar2.php
    single.php

These are files in the other theme directory:

    archive.php
    comments-popup.php
    comments.php
    footer.php
    functions.php
    header.php
    images
    index.php
    Installation Instructions.txt
    page.php
    screenshot.jpg
    search.php
    searchform.php
    sidebar.php
    single.php
    style.css

Any ideas on why this isn’t working? I apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge here.

    Thanks

Hey rorrot, I’m having the same problem. Figured it out yet?

Success! Finally found a guy at Godaddy who helped me – part of the problem was that I was uploading to the wrong directory! Sounds funny but the file structure on the host is hard to understand without some help if you’re like me.

But when I did find the right directory, I uploaded the zip file that was downloaded for the theme – and then unarchived it at the server right in the directory. It works now! Hope that helps hreeman. One thing I like about Godaddy is that there is always someone there to help, 7/24. Sometimes you just have to find the person that understands WordPress better than the last.

Simply reading the Codex FAQ on uploading themes would have solved your problem before it became one. There is also an excellent video on this by one of the regulars on support, whooami. Ovbiously neither of you did any research at all before doing this.
