• So my website just got hacked, and when my web host finally restored it, she had chosen to upgrade my version of WordPress to 2.0. So now I’m stuck with the new version whether I wanted it or not. And there are several things that I knew how to do before that I don’t know how to do now. Like setting the options for what types of files can be uploaded.

Previously I had set the file types to be mp3s, jpegs, and gifs. But now I need to add word (.doc) files to the list. But I can’t. Because as far as I can tell, there is no way of editing these options anymore. The button that used to go to the place where I would set these options no longer exists. But I am still being constrained by the options I have previously set. I cannot use word files on my blog. Oh, I can upload them all I want, and they’re sitting there in the content folder with everything else. And I can write the code to display the link to download the file. But when you click on it, it doesn’t work. And that’s because the blog has been configured to not accept word documents, and now I can’t change that setting because the WordPress programmers took that option away from me.

    So what do I do?

  • I have many article for my site written on Word and like you I learned that WP2 doesn’t support Word. My get around was to copy and paste the word doc to text edit (I’m on a MAC) and then I simply drag and drop into the post box of WP.

    Hope that helps…

By the way I still can’t upload a pic. lol
