uploads crash and pause

i am often having a terrible time having my uploads get uploaded and frequently run into the timer pausing at 5% or 25% or 49% or whatever. This happens when I am uploading images after selecting them one at a time and it also happens when I do them this way in bulk. It also happens when I drag and drop individually or in bulk

is there a way to optimize this as it is really costing me a lot of time.

my connection seems to be 3 something or other that seems reasonably fast.
