    Hi,

I am using SDM on my WordPress Multisite. I have around 82 sub-sites and all the them has SDM enabled and has around 1000 posts. It was working fine till now but suddenly when we click on the “PDF” button i.e. for downloading media which has the sdc_download Permalink, it downloads the file of 0 bytes and it shows error when opening that file. But that same file, if downloaded using media upload url, it is downloading perfectly. I have disabled all plugin to check for conflict but the issue remains. I have deactivated and reactivated but the issue is still there. Then I have tried going to permalink and saving it without making any change, still no luck. Could you please help. This is sort of a serious issue and is affecting thousands of file on my multisite network.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Glad to help. First question: what is “SDM”? Second question: how to repeat the error on default WordPress site? That way I can follow along, repeat the error, and try to help asap. Note that the plugin is working fine on other sites, so likely this is a local issue. Let me know how I can help.

I am so sorry for mentioning SDC as SDM.

Our main WordPress website eajournals.org (multisite network home) just serves as an information page and all downloads are on sub-sites.

For guide you through the whole situation, here the chronological story:

I was gladly using SDC to upload PDF and count the downloads. We moved our website to a new server. Even then it was working fine. However, my users started reporting that when they click on “PDF” button to downlaod the PDF, they were given a warning regarding a potential risk. I checked and saw that the link started with https://eajoun… Hence, i used “better search and replace plugin” to update all the http to https. It got changed. The table corresponding to SDC was wp_sdc_download, wp_1_sdc_download to wp_93_sdc_download.

The links got updated to https://eajournals…. but after that each and every PDF downloads stated giving this issue. When clicked on the link, it downloads the PDF of 0 bytes and when we open it Adobe shows error or corrupt file etc. But once we use the media url, the same file downloads fine.

After this I even tried bring https back to http using the same “better search and replace plugin”.

Hence, I am not clueless. Hope this helps.

Hey thanks. I still don’t know what “SDM” or “SDC” or whatever is, but that’s OK. If you can provide the basic steps to repeat the issue on default WordPress site, it will enable me to investigate and try to resolve asap. Without being able to repeat the issue, there is not much I can do, other than provide information.

@tahirasad What are the steps to repeat the error? If the issue is consistently repeatable, I could find a Windows server and try to resolve.

Yes, it’s repeatable. It works on my local linux server (lamp) but not on production server (IIS).

Ok good to know. If you (or anyone) can provide the actual steps to repeat the error on default WP on Windows IIs server, please let me know. Thank you.

I just create new Simple Download Counter plugin post and use the link or shortcode it provides. That’s it. When I open the link it downloads the file and file size is 0 byte

Okay thanks. I will try to find a Windows server for testing. And then fix the issue if possible. I appreciate your help, @tahirasad.

Hey just to follow up with this, I *think* this issue is resolved in the next version of SDC. There was a related issue with the file path on Windows servers, and that has been resolved. Please test with the next version (1.6) and let me know. Thank you.

It worked. Thank you very much.
