download links not working!

    I have some serious problems since the wc 3.4 update. A lot of product download links do not work properly anymore.
    If the customer click the link they will get an HTTP ERROR 500.

    Strange thing is that on some pages the link do work, and other pages they do NOT.
    I also see a difference in the donwload links. Some include the email address and some don’t (I guese because of the GDPR?)

    Here the links that do NOT work:
    – https://website.com/my-account/view-order/37632/
    – also the page just after checkout.
    – all emails send out by WC
    – All links without the email address in the string (GDPR issue?)

    Here the links that DO work:
    – https://website.com/my-account/downloads/ (also strange is the the counter of remaining download does not count down anymore)
    – all the links I can send manually (going to the order, copy the download link and mail it to them)
    – all links with the email address in the string

    Hope to hear soon. Do more people have this problem?

    Note: I do also use the plugin (also from woocommerce) “Grant download permissions for past WooCommerce orders”. Can this be related? I deactivated it and didn’t change anything.

    Hi there,

    The two links you sent through requires one to be logged in and isn’t something we can troubleshooting from here.

    With that said, you mentioned that the URLs include email addresses – could you send through an example of what that URL looks like? The reason I’m asking is that I don’t believe the GDPR changes should affect download links.

    Finally, could you also post a copy of your system status report here? You can find that under WooCommerce > System Status.

    I understand. The links were just for indication.
    I’m also just guessing what could have happened in the update.

    Note in the bottom of the report I”m changing some template files in my child theme. But when I delete them nothing changes. So it cant be that I think?

    Hi @philip,

    Similar to the other thread you have open, this issue is likely caused by a theme or plugin conflict. I see that the active theme applied overrides to the /myaccount/downloads.php template.

    Try conflict testing as I mentioned in the other thread and let us know what you find.

    I am experiencing a similar problem. I’m not sure I understand the resolution offered above.

    I have observed the same differences in the download links:
    1. Email to customer contains https://website.com/?download_file=842&order=wc_order_5b8204179b671&uid=7aaa53c5638ec39c73f9b45cefd273f2be96b8970c32623384ede7406e3cae15&key=d43b88b4-ba45-49bf-ad37-38e6f331f1ad
    2. Download link from Order in WooCommerce: https://website.com/?download_file=842&order=wc_order_5b8204179b671&email=customeremailaddress.com&key=29b41b00-7c5a-49e3-8e41-74c2ea008488

    The customer emailed link redirects the user to the home page. The backend link works every time.

    Noticeable is one link has the email address, the other doesn’t.

    Hi @transcendthematrix

    Try switching back to a default theme like Twenty Seventeen and disabling all plugins except for WooCommerce to see if this resolves the issue. If so, then re-enable each one at a time until you find the one that’s causing the conflict.
