• I recently did a suggested upgrade to my site and ever since have been unable to access the dashboard. (I am sorry I am not sure of the version upgraded to, but I suspect that it is 4.5.2

The message reads Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_removable_query_args() in /websites/123reg/LinuxPackage22/ja/me/sh/jameshasler.co.uk/public_html/toast-master-copy/wp-admin/includes/misc.php on line 921

I have read a fair bit about plugin deactivation and have tried via FTP to look at this, but I may not be doing it correctly. (I am seriously novice I am afraid. Luckily the front end is working OK in the meantime.)
    (The site is https://www.toastmasterjameshasler.co.uk)

Any suggestions. I have tried to read through as many similar occurrences as are available, but I am still doing something wrong.

  • Hi James,

It sounds like you may have an incomplete or corrupt install of WordPress. It could also be that a plugin has failed.

First thing to do is to FTP into your account and rename the plugins directory. You will find this folder in wp-content/plugins. Then attempt to log in. If it worked, then you have a bad plugin. Activate one plugin at a time until the issue comes back. Once you found the problematic plugin. Delete it from the plugins directory. Please contact the developer of the plugin to let them know so that they can fix the issue for others as well.

If the plugins trick does not work, you can use the FTP method to attempt to do a override of all core files.

    1. Download the latest copy of WP at https://www.ads-software.com/download/
    2. Unpack the .zip file
    3. FTP into your account and find the root of WP. This will be the directory that has wp-config.php, wp-content and some other files.
    4. FTP the WP files to the root and override the files on the server.

This should update the files to 4.5.2.

    Hope this helps

    Hi Justin

Thank you very much for your assistance in this matter.

Dare I say it I have tried both, but neither appear to have worked?

I changed the name of plugins to plugins.hold

Reset that and then tried the update as suggested. However, I may not be doing this correctly. I have updated the file into the folder. Do I need to do anything else with it?

    Kind regards

    James

You will need t update the entire WordPress files structure and not just the file that is giving you issues.

Try updating the entire WordPress structure.

I have tried that. Still no joy. I had originally stupidly transferred the ZIP folder without unzipping. However I have now transferred the unzipped version, but I am still getting the same message!

    Any further thoughts?

I have done the full update and I have even gone and disabled the plugins once again. but I a still getting the same message.

Could it have anything to do with the fact that this is a copy site. Does the error message contain any clues?

Call to undefined function wp_removable_query_args() in /websites/123reg/LinuxPackage22/ja/me/sh/jameshasler.co.uk/public_html/toast-master-copy/wp-admin/includes/misc.php on line 921 – this message has not changed at all.

Try re-uploading all files & folders – except the root wp-config.php & .htaccess files and the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

Hi Esmi. Have just tried that, but again no luck. Should this be instantaneous or is there likely to be a delay?

    James

Can you someone tell me how to access the back end of my website. Apparently I am receiving a HTTP ERROR 500 and my web hosting company is telling that I need to upgrade my wordpress. But how can I upgrade my wordrpess when I do not have access to my dashboard. This issue has been going since late June 2016. Please help me.

@fltv2013 – You’ve posted on an old thread that has nothing to do with a 500 error, so if none of the following helps resolve the issue, you may want to start your own topic so it gets some attention.

Internal server errors (error 500) are often caused by plugin or theme function conflicts, so if you have access to your admin panel, try deactivating all plugins. If you don’t have access to your admin panel, try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the default theme for your version of WordPress to rule-out a theme-specific issue. If you don’t have access to your admin panel, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue.

If that does not resolve the issue, it’s possible that a .htaccess rule could be the source of the problem. To check for this, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, and rename the .htaccess file. If you can’t find a .htaccess file, make sure that you have set your SFTP or FTP client to view invisible files.

If you weren’t able to resolve the issue by either resetting your plugins and theme or renaming your .htaccess file, we may be able to help, but we’ll need a more detailed error message. Internal server errors are usually described in more detail in the server error log. If you have access to your server error log, generate the error again, note the date and time, then immediately check your server error log for any errors that occurred during that time period. If you don’t have access to your server error log, ask your hosting provider to look for you.

I can not access any of my dashboard plugins or edit any post. I am Novice so communicate with me with understandable language.
