Without a link I’m afraid our psychic powers will fail us…

But it sounds like either there is an index.html file or the default file has not been setup to include index.php.

Thanks – was hoping to avoid posting the link.

Will see if I can sort it using professional help and will post the link if I can’t.

That’s fine if you are unable to post a link.

Show this thread to your host, they should make index.php a default document in the web server configuration.

I am having the same problem I think. I just installed the site on the server, I can log in to the backend of wordpress but only pull up the directory listing in my browser. I also can’t see it with https://www.domain.com/index.php.

Jan – I see an index.html file on the server – do I need to delete this file?

I’ve read the install trouble shooting tips that say:

I see a directory listing rather than a web page.

The web server needs to be told to view index.php by default. In Apache, use the DirectoryIndex index.php directive. The simplest option is to create a file named .htaccess in the installed directory and place the directive there. Another option is to add the directive to the web server’s configuration files.

but don’t know how to 1) create a file named .btaccess or 2) add a directive to the web server’s configuration files.

    can you help?

    thanks!

    Yes.

But instead of taking over kerrmunications thread with your issue (which may be the same) please be considerate and start your own thread next time.

Unless you piped in to help the OP, what you are doing is considered impolite.

    But it’s the same problem!

Probably. But it’s not your thread and someone else was asking for help and your interruption isn’t doing anything for the OP.

Note: you didn’t write that last part, I’m just trying to be proactive. ??

I got some professional help and found that my problems were due to the site being hosted on a Windows IIS server (or something like that). So someone wrote a redirection script as a temporary fix and I need to sort out with the host at some point to, as I’m advised, “change the custom error documents”.

I’ll mark this thread as resolved – thanks for all the help – much appreciated.
