URGENT: Sites automatically updating to Alpha version 5.5.3-alpha-49449

Came here to post this as well. Several sites of mine have auto-updated to 5.5.3-alpha-49449. Concerning!

Can confirm. There has to be a problem with the update server?

Do you have the beta test plugin installed?

Not at all. Just regular installs without any test plugins or anything like that.

No I don’t have the beta test plugin installed. There are also plenty users on Twitter reporting this issue.

Same problem and I don’t have the beta test plugin. Sites get updated to alpha version with a lot of unnecessary themes being installed!

It seems the recent update to the latest version introduced this.

When I look in the update section there is a notice for Beta testers and a mention of the latest nightly builds.

What is this bullsh*t. all my ecommerce websites updated to this alpha sh*t! No additional plugins installed, just elementor and woocommerce!! I CANNOT roll-back because it gives me an error. What have you done?!?!

Seeing the same behavior, had updated to 5.5.2 yesterday… some response from WP would be nice.

You can safely revert now. Go to https://example.com/wp-admin/update-core.php and click the button to reinstall WP 5.5.2.

Reverting to 5.5.2 was successful on our sites.

Confirmed, downgrading from within the admin console works (at least for my simple sites). It seems the alpha version adds all the default themes to the site which can be removed after the downgrade.
