    Hey,

Please help me with this setup. I am terrified I lost all my work ??

“Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING in /home2/rrfxk/public_html/wp-config.php on line 47” is what I get when putting in my url.

I was trying to using the plugin Blog-In-Blog but I noticed that this plugin doesn’t work with the latest version of WP (3.7.1), that this plugin only works up until version 3.3.2 of WP. I just wanted to have my features from the Opulus Theme connect to specific pages.

I had 3.7.1 installed so I deleted the files from the FTP (I’m using FileZilla) and upload version 3.3.2. But then when I went to the admin page there was nothing there… Now I am scared I’ve lost all my work.

Any and all advice and help is seriously appreciated as I’m new to all this and experiencing a mild WP crisis.

    Thanks,
    Becky

Are you going to reinstall 3.7.1? I don’t think old WordPress versions are supported.

don’t panic – well panic in a minor way – you’ve done something slightly stupid, but should not have lost all your work

You wordpress site will consist of

Worpress files – the wordpress version
    WP-contents which hold
    themes
    plugins
uploads – images and files you have uploaded
the database, which holds settings, preferences, and most importantly your posts and pages

So at worst you’ve trashed your site, but you should still have your database

    So how to proceed.

New versions of wordpress fix bugs but more importantly make you site secure.

So you need to run 3.7.1 and although you might want that plugin, if it doesn’t work, you should not compromise your site to get a plugin working – someone malicious will come along and trash your site.

First question – did you delete wp-contents, and if you did do you have a backup?

Ok, should I just re-download 3.7.1 then? Thank you so much for a quick response!

yes, and if you have wp-content then all should be recoverable.

Alright, so I tried uploading the contents of WP 3.7.1, including my personal edit of the wp-config.php. However, WP tells me that either the username and password information in the wp-config.php file is incorrect, or they can’t contact the database server at HostGator. However, my host’s database server isn’t down (checked that).

I am going to see if I can make another DB username and password and see if there are any results…

    Ok.

Your WP installation is trying to connect to your database.

Your hosting package usually contains info on what the database info is. Worst case Hostgator should be able to tell you what it is.

Once you know, then you just need this right in wp-config.

Theer is no point in trying to create or change one, you just need config to match the one’s that is there.

Once you get a connection back, you should be some/most of the way there

    Ok, thanks for the feedback.

Unfortunately I am still confused. I am logged into my cPanel of HostGator and I have the DB name and username correctly copied (I’ve resorted to copying the names into the https://examplename.com/wp-admin/setup-config.php?step=1 link).

I’m still getting that there are problems however. Is this because I downloaded the WP version 3.7.1 a second time and used a second (different?) unzipped folder from the WP site?

Thanks for the support so far!

Ok, I assume there is something wrong on like 47 of the wp-config.php since now when I load my url I see:

“Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING in /home2/rrfxk/public_html/wp-config.php on line 47”

    However,
line 47 says ” * You can generate these using the {@link https://
    line 48 api.www.ads-software.com/secret-key/1.1/salt/ www.ads-software.com secret-key
    line49 service}

I changed the SALTS as well, but no luck.

I went to my host provider for help. All good!
