• I was just updating my website/Wordpress blog humanaturepodcast.org and received this message:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare the_post_thumbnail_caption() (previously declared in /homepages/22/d576746140/htdocs/clickandbuilds/Humanature5370/wp-includes/post-thumbnail-template.php:244) in /homepages/22/d576746140/htdocs/clickandbuilds/Humanature5370/wp-content/themes/podcaster/functions.php on line 96

This website is for my work’s podcast and I was in the process of posting the audio for our new episode which needs to be scheduled for tomorrow.

If possible, I would like to go back to the previous version of Word Press in case 4.6 is not compatible with my theme.

This is very urgent. Please respond as soon as possible.

It turns out that my theme is not compatible with 4.6. Is there anyway someone can help me get back into my site and return it to the last Word Press update? This is a very urgent issue and I cannot find someone to help me.

I am also unable to login into my website to “Deactivating all plugins” as the troubleshooting guide suggests.

Using ftp or the file manager provided by your host rename wp-content/plugins to wp-content/plugins-old

    Hi Kmessinger,

I will feel silly asking this but how do you do that?

The easiest way is to log in to your host. They should provide some sort of file manager where you can edit or rename files.

@kmessinger the problem is in the theme, not a plugin. Check the error message she posted.

The solution is to change themes or fix the theme with an update from the theme author.

You need to rename the theme folder via FTP
so in wp-content/themes rename podcaster to podcaster_old

Then log into wp-admin At this point WordPress will switch to its default theme when it cant load the active theme.

Simon, will that remove the Podcaster theme entirely?

No, you are simply renaming the theme folder to force the default theme to load.

All theme settings should be in the database.

Once you have an updated version of you theme that supports WordPress 4.6 you can update the files and change back.

I believe I’ve found the FTP for my site. However, how do you change the folder name? It won’t let me type in a new folder name. I’m I missing something?

    Nevermind, I found it!

I changed the name of the folder to podcaster but it did in fact remove the Podcaster theme… leading to an entirely new problem. Help!

    I changed it to podcaster_old I meant.
