they say everything is working
does however say ‘misconfiguration error’

remove any plugin which you might have added few hours ago ??
It happened to me as well, but it was because of a plugin which i installed and suddenly my site went down…
I removed the plugin via ftp and things were back to normal!

how would I do that, back up wp-content and then remove all plugins?

You can backup your site and using ftp rename/remove your plugins using FTP.

Okay, removed loads of plugins and it is working again okay, until I try to enable any plugin

Put them back on the server, say Akismet for e.g. click Activate takes me to https://www.technologybloggers.org/wp-admin/plugins.php?activate=true&plugin_status=all&paged=1&s= and entire wp-admin goes down… site still up though/

When I try to install a new plugin also and the entire wp-admin console goes down when hit activate…

www.ads-software.com distributes and documents the WordPress application but has no connection with any site running that software. You need to contact your hosts about this. And next time, please post your own topic instead of tagging onto a 10 month old topic.
