• Hi there. I read the documentation on how to change a url and followed this:

    Download your existing site files.
Export your database – go in to mySQL and export the database.
Move the backed up files and database into a new folder – somewhere safe – this is your site backup.
Log in to the site you want to move and go to Settings > General, then change the URLs. (ie from https://example.com/ to https://example.net ) – save the settings and expect to see a 404 page.
    Download your site files again.
    Export the database again.
Edit wp-config.php with the new server’s mySQL database name, user and password.
    Upload the files.
Import the database on the new server.

I did not mess with the database and the site remains with the same host and the same data base. I did do a search query and changed the old url to the new.

I wanted to change my site from GunnisonPainting.com to KoolerPainting.com.

I may be waiting still for the nameservers to update — the site pulls up at gunnisonpainting.com though it is messed up. And KoolerPainting.com still shows a holding page.

Can anyone provide feedback? Did I miss a step or am I still waiting on nameservers?

    Changing url:
    See https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Changing_The_Site_URL#Changing_the_URL_directly_in_the_database

    DNS/nameserver records propagation:
    – First, it can take up to 72 hours (though usually much less) for DNS/nameserver records to fully propagate if you’ve just purchased or transferred a domain name. Second, different networks will update at different times during this period, so you may need to get in touch with them for more details. That is, bear in mind that just because one provider has updated their records, it doesn’t mean that another will.
    – Changing the name servers only directs the domain to the new hosting provider. You’ll need to add the domain to your account there or forward the domain to the new domain if you want everything to appear at the new domain.
    – If you still have trouble viewing the site after 72 hours have passed, please try clearing your browser’s cache.
    – If that doesn’t work, try clearing your local DNS cache: https://support.opendns.com/entries/26336865-Clearing-the-DNS-Cache-on-Computers-Servers-and-Web-Browsers
