• I changed both url address’s in the “options” section (one i think was the home and the other for blog) of WordPress from
    ikangaroo.com/blog/
    to
    ikangaroo.com
    I thought I could just simply change both and it would be directed. I simply want to change it back to what it was but have lost all contact with wordpress because of what I changed. (this was all i changed, the two address’s)
    Help, please

  • Never touch them if you don’t know what are you doing. They are not toys for playing!
    Here is the fix:
    https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/site-url/

    go into your database via whatever means your hosting company provides for you (typically phpMyadmin). click the link for the wp_options table. Browse that table’s contents and look for the option_name “blogurl” or option_id 1. Click the edit icon next to that entry.
    In the edit screen, manually write the correct url into the option_value. (ikangaroo.com/blog/)

    click the go button. I think that should do it – it should at least allow you to get to the correct page for logging into your wp-admin… from there, you can see if all is still correct. I’d go to the options (general) page and make sure that both the WordPress address and Blog Address were correct.

    i followed the tutorial and syncbox’s advice.
    When i get to my database in phpMyadmin, there seem to be 3 databases, named ikangaroo_blog , ikangaroo_blog01 , i kangaroo02. Both the 01 and 02 have choices like that in the tutorial, blog (without a number, the first one on the list) does not seem to have any choices inside of it.
    I changed both 01 and 02 appropriately. I did not locate the clear cache option and am not sure what version of WordPress I am using. Still, no love after changing 01 and 02 however.
    any more advice?

    1. On every admin page on your blog you can see your version.
    2. If the blog is the one linked to your profile here – it has a different problem than changed URI values!
    3. To which database is connecting your wp-config.php file?
    (before you say “I don’t know” – download, open in a plain text editor and read it form there)
    4. How did you install initially your WP? Did you make several attempts to install it? Or, do you have more than one blogs?

    1.)<?php

    // ** MySQL settings ** //

    define(‘DB_NAME’, ”); // The name of the database

    define(‘DB_USER’, ”); // Your MySQL username

    define(‘DB_PASSWORD’, ”); // …and password

    define(‘DB_HOST’, ‘localhost’); // 99% chance you won’t need to change this value

    // You can have multiple installations in one database if you give each a unique prefix

    $table_prefix = ‘wp_’; // Only numbers, letters, and underscores please!

    // Change this to localize WordPress. A corresponding MO file for the

    // chosen language must be installed to wp-includes/languages.

    // For example, install de.mo to wp-includes/languages and set WPLANG to ‘de’

    // to enable German language support.

    define (‘WPLANG’, ”);

    /* That’s all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */

    define(‘ABSPATH’, dirname(__FILE__).’/’);

    require_once(ABSPATH.’wp-settings.php’);

    ?>
    that is what the php file looks like in text edit
    its from my server, sits next to a file with the name wp-config-sample.php
    no info on it that i can tell.
    2.) that is my blog in my profile :ikangaroo.com/blog
    3.) I was not the one who installed it, just the one who broke it
    4.) I definitely only changed those two addresses stated in the first post
    Thanks so much for the help

    No, you or someone else changed a lot more things…

    If these 3 lines look literally as your posted here:

    define('DB_NAME', '*****'); // The name of the database
    define('DB_USER', '*****'); // Your MySQL username
    define('DB_PASSWORD', '*****'); // ...and password

    i.e. all empty where I put the asterix [*] then somebody screwed up your blog!

    thats strange. No way that could have been generated by what I did?
    I am right in assuming only one of the three databases are needed?
    the last two seem identical.
    I could just get the info(db_name, db_user….etc) from the server for one of those databases? The site’s owner has a css sheet, some real basic stuff, would it be as easy to just reset it up?
    Could he have almost messed it up/not set it up well, had it work, then what I did to it today finally broke it?
    Cause I have no answer for there being a strange php file.
    I took a look at this site for my buddy. Funny enough, I work at a web development company.

    If you do that (work as web dev) you should know how to get the DB info in a site admin panel.
    With that wp-config file it could never work. Period.

    Yes, you need only one DB, but you should keep the one that has content; the latest content.
