URL errors

  • Have deleted approx lots of old posts in my blog. In webmaster tools now seeing url errors (soft errors and ‘no found’. When I look at these seem most of them relate to tags and categories which presumably cross ref’d blog posts I have deleted. is this an issue because the sitemap last generated has cross ref’d these blog posts? What do I need to do to clear up these errors – if anything?

    There is really not much you can do about this. It’s because Google has indexed or cached these (and indexed or cached the categories and tags when the posts existed), but of course now they don’t.

    Over time, Google will refresh its index and cache, and the error will be flushed out of the tools.

    You can also try to hurry the process along in Webmaster Tools by checking the errors and choosing “Mark as fixed.”
