• Hi,

I have added Honeypot, Real Simple Captcha and Askimet to my site and spam is getting through from using real email addresses – each one posts a URL in the message though. Is there a way to stop messages being sent with a URL in?

    Thanks.

  • Akismet uses the URL submitted with a form as part of it’s spam detection algorithm if available, so you are probably doing all you can to restrict form spam at this stage.

I’ve switched from Really Simple CAPTCHA (which requires a separate plugin) to ReCAPTCHA (which is now included directly within CF7) & found this is somewhat more effective & less difficult to set up & use IMO.

I’ve found CF7 Honeypot has the most significant effect but I still get form spam every day.

I suspect that CF7, because of it’s popularity, is targeted by form spammers & other hackers.

Lately I’ve been collecting the form submitters IP using the Special Mail Tag [_remote_ip] in each form and blocking these IP’s in WordFence.

Hi Neil, I’m being alerted with updates to this forum as well, do you know why ?

    Thanks

    Andrew
