    Hi again.

There is one more issue which you could hopefully help. We moved from our previous site version to wordpress and had to convert all the database, tables, links, permalinks etc. We used for that Permalinks customizer plugin. What we were able to achieve is the fact that we still have the old URLs available on the site like this one:

    /article/20713_guide-how-to-easily-farm-renown-in-rainbow-six-siege

However, the new correct permalink structure is:

    /articles/guides/guide-how-to-easily-farm-renown-in-rainbow-six-siege

And your plugin does not identify this URL as something which should be redirected. If we would use the same beginning like for example /articles/guides/guide-how-to-easily-farm-renown-in-rain-six then this URL would be successfully redirected to the final version. But if it starts with /article/20713 then it’s ignored.

Could you help us how to fix that?

    Thank you.

Edit: Maybe there is a conflict with the previous plugin and how it made the permalink structure, I don’t know. It’s just weird and I found this problem today and that could mean that we had for several months tens of thousands of visits going to 404 page which is a HUGE problem and quite a lot of money lost… :-/

    Best,
    Karel

your plugin does not identify this URL as something which should be redirected

The plugin only redirects 404s. It won’t redirect existing pages or any case where a 404 is not triggered. There’s no way to adjust the plugin to redirect existing pages. It’s not the purpose of the plugin.

Well, I know. But without having Permalinks customizer switched on, the URLs above do trigger the 4O4 page, that’s the issue. But only 404 but not redirecting to the main page. But most probably it’s just a conflict betwen the usage of URL and how it’s made in the database. Because those URLs do not follow the regular permalink structure so maybe that’s why your plugin does not see them? Is it possible for your plugin to check all the URLs even if they differ from the standard settings?

    The plugin doesn’t “check a URL.” It’s only triggered when there’s a 404.

Well, after your last update the behavior went back to normal. All the URLs are back redirecting to the correct ones. So it seems that the bug in the database was quite a BIG one for us.

It created a lot of work to search and find what’s wrong, it created several hundreds errors on Google Search Console and now we had to deal also with infinite loops with redirects because the Permalink customizer was again live because we have to have either yours or theirs plugin live and both of them created the loop and got the server CPU to 100%.

Thank you for your work however I hope that such bugs won’t happen again… :-/

Edit: Still a little bit problematic. We had in the past around 9k automatic redirects. Most probably some of them were automatically deleted but at this time the pages are not for some reason automatically added. So we still have several hundres or thousands to solve, sort somehow. We are putting an exclusion for all old URL structure so hopefully this way it will work fine and we just keep old posts under the old different structure. Not ideal but it’s hard to fix it better now…

Again, if I can’t reproduce the bug then I can’t fix it. If there’s a new bug then open a new ticket instead of commenting on an old ticket. If you can’t give me clear steps on how to reproduce the bug, then I can’t fix it.

Again, please find a different plugin to use instead. For example, https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/redirection/, https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/eps-301-redirects/, https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/404-to-301/, https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/301-redirects/, https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/simple-301-redirects/, etc.
