    Hi.

When I go on any page or a post in the dashboard, I get a warning from this plugin like “error retreiving page from https://www.example.com/?P=166”. The thing is, my permalinks are by post name, so it’s looking at the wrong url (it should be “www.example.com/postname).

I’ve cleared cache and can’t think of anything else. Any help?

That’s the WordPress “shortlink” and is interchangeable with the permalink – there’s no problem in using it (though it should be a lowercase “p”).

It sounds like your hosting provider might be blocking outgoing HTTP connections from your site – this is required for quality control to check the front-end page for duplicate meta tags. I would suggest you copy-paste this error in a ticket to your hosting provider and ask them to fix their setup. ??

Ah. It was the disable site plugin I run as I’m building that caused it. Thank you for your swift reply.

No problem – glad you were able to find the cause. ??

BTW, don’t forget to rate the plugin if you have a minute – the plugin works so well that people often forget that part. ??

    I have rated you five.

But the problem actually remains, it seems, and it wasn’t the plugin after all. It began when the host server was upgraded from PHP 5.6 to 7.1 (brought on by another prompt from your plugin!)

Host guy says he can’t find any errors that could be causing it. He tried switching to PHP 7.0 as well. Any clues?

An error connecting back to the server could be a few things:

1- The DNS lookups might not work from your site (locally on the server).

2- A firewall might be blocking access for connections from the local IP back to the local IP.

3- The new PHP might have “follow redirects” disabled (although WPSSO checks for that). Assuming you’re using nicer permalinks, using the shortlink causes a redirect.

Off the top of my head, those are the ones I can think of. ??

    Thanks for the review! ??

Great. ?? Did they tell you what was wrong? ??
