    Hello there,

Great plugin, I’ve been using it for a year now. But just today I’ve noticed a problem with the duplicating. When I duplicate a custom post-type and change the URL of the duplicate to something else. The original post-type is re-directed to the newly created one. And I can’t access the old one at all.

    Could you help please?

    Thank you!

    Tereza

I’ve just sent you login details via your contact form.

Thanks. I checked it out on your site and didn’t seem to have any issues… I’m not sure if I’m missing something in your description of the error, or maybe it’s a specific browser issue.

Either way, I have uploaded a new update that automatically adds “-copy” to the post slug (post_name). This is also a new setting on the settings page so you can change this string to anything you want.

Please update your plugin when it becomes available and let me know if this resolves your issue.

    Thanks!

Thanks! I can see you’ve duplicated one of my post-type. Now, if you click “view” on the original one “Thalictrum delavayi”, it takes you to the “Thalictrum delavayi Copy”. Or not?

I’m using Google Chrome as a browser.

Ok, yes I see what the issue is now on your site. Could you please upgrade the plugin to version 2.14 and try duplicating another post and see if this continues?

Also, could you switch your WP to English language and see if you have different results?

    Awesome, thanks metaphorcreations!

I’m very sorry, I’ve updated the plugin, switched to English language (United States), and it is still not working. Can you have a look?

@litemotiv Does it work for you know?

@josif201: yes it works fine for me with version 2.14.

Please note that posts that you already duplicated with an earlier version of the plugin will still redirect to the wrong url, this fix only applies to posts that you will duplicate from now on. Earlier duplicated posts can only be fixed by removing the respective _wp_old_slug entries of the posts in the database.

Unfortunatelly, I’ve just tried creating a new post-type and duplicating it. When I go to view the original one, it still redirects me to the newly duplicated one. That is so odd!

Did you create the new post/post-type with a title that you used before? Since that will probably already be in the database as a redirect…

No, the title was different from anything I’ve used before ?? I can’t see, why it is working for you and not for me. Could it be a setting problem? When you duplicate your post, do you create a draft first?

I am using the default settings of the plugin, so it creates a draft on duplication and then i publish it manually.

@josif201 – I don’t have admin access on your site so I’m unable to do this myself, but please go into the Tools > Post Duplicator page and save the settings. I forgot to add the appended slug string to the default values, so if you haven’t updated your settings that string is not being applied yet.

Give that a try and see if it resolves the issue.

    Works for me as expected.

Question: is with the change in 2.14 the extra if-clause

    if( $key != '_edit_lock' && $key != '_wp_old_slug' ) {

from 2.13 now obsolete, or is it still required?

Plus, it would be great if you could add the same setting-option for the post’s title, not just its slug… ??

Great plugin anyway – thanks for providing it for free and keep up the good work!

    Regards,
    Mike

The if statement is still required and will remain there from now on. Good idea for the post title. I will add that in as well.

Thanks for the reply and the info about the required statement…

Good to hear that you like my idea for the title field.
Please make sure to make this field translatable ??

    Thanks,
    Mike
