    Hi FG,

I was wondering about the URLs after migration. We have successfully migrated the content over to a WordPress site. Except for some minor editing, the Drupal content is all there. Thank you!

But I wonder about the URLs. What happens to all the posts addresses after migration? Do they retain the /wpsite/ that is inserted by the plugin after the development?

And can the same IPNs by used for e-commerce even if they also have the /wpsite/ inserted into their URL?

    Thanks.

When you will move your site to the root directory, you need a plugin like WP Migrate DB or Duplicator to replace the paths in the database.

Moreover, if you want to redirect automatically the old Drupal URLs to the new WordPress URLs, you need the Premium version: https://www.fredericgilles.net/fg-drupal-to-wordpress/

    Thanks for your reply.

Is it straightforward to use the Premium version after already installing and using the free version? How does that work?

And if I decide instead to use Migrate DB or Duplicator, is that something I can install before going live with the WP site?

Yes, if you have already migrated your site successfully, you just need to select the option “Redirect the Drupal URLs” (Premium version only) and save the settings.

Migrate DB or Duplicator are not instead of the Premium version ; they are in addition of the Premium version. They are used to change the paths in the database. They are not redirecting the URLs.

    OK. I understand. Thank you.

If I could also ask you, what are the consequences of maintaining the same Drupal URLs with the Premium plugin versus adding the /wpsite/ in the migrated WordPress URLs with the free version?

How might this affect SEO, for example?

If the URLs are different and not redirected using 301 redirect, you will loose your SEO.
I advise you to move your site to the root directory. Then if the URLs are different, you can either create the 301 redirects manually or use the Premium version to redirect the URLs automatically.

Thank you for your advice and your excellent support.

Since my Drupal site is using the very outdated version 5, the current SEO is minimal — no meta tags at all. What would be the effect on SEO and Google search ranking if I did not use 301 redirect?

I think I most likely will redirect, but I’m just curious about alternate scenarios.

If the URLs are changed and not redirected using 301 redirect, the search engines will not show your site in the search results. And you will have to wait that they re-index all your new URLs before being able to find it again on the search engines. And the ranking will restart at zero.
That’s why it is strongly advised that you redirect the URLs using 301 redirect.
