• Hi

I have been playing around with the permalink but can’t get where I need to go

I think the reason I can’t find the answer is the wording of the question.

I am using WP as a CMS and therefore want to get rid of the /?page_id=3 and add in specific page titles.

    i.e

    index.php, portfolio.php etc

    not

    index.php/portfolio

    surely this is possible ?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Ash

Just a simple ‘your mad that can’t be done’ would be nice.

What do I put in the custom box to get just .com/portfolio for instance does anyone know that one ?

Does anyone know where you can actually get questions answered?

/%postname% doesn’t work for some reason.

You need to make sure your host has mod_rewrite enabled which is an Apache module that rewrites permalinks on the fly. Further info…

Apparently it is enabled I’ve just checked.

In fact nothing I put in the custom field work, it alway shows a error ‘ not found on this server ‘

Any other ideas. I really need to get this sorted out.

I look at a couple of plugins but they don’t seem to wokr either.

    ???????

What happens when you change the structure and click “Save Changes”. Any error messages?

What is the content of the htaccess file in your WordPress directory?

Is that file writable during the update process? WordPress needs to be able to write to that file in order to save any changes.

Acknowledge, using only postname is a very bad idea and I know there have been problems with index.php in the permalink when 2.6 came out. Try any other permalink structure just see, for example postid/postname.
