  • Hi, the string appended to the url is actually for our Address Bar share analytics. (Read More: https://support.addthis.com/customer/portal/articles/381254-address-bar-sharing-analytics )
It will help you to track shares via copy paste on email, IM, etc and add one more medium to analyse.
You can disable it if you prefer from the advanced pane in AddThis settings. It should be visible in all browsers.

Kindly explain to me why AFTER I’ve uninstalled and deleted the plugin I am still seeing this appended string on my site?

I have cleared the site cache as well as my browser cache and yet I still see this appended string. I am MORE than a little upset about not being able to get rid of it.

Hi Shannon, please check whether you have added AddThis script directly into your theme files by any chance. Also, if you have WP-SuperCache plugin installed, you have to clear cache from that plugin as well. If you are still seeing the issue after checking these please let me know.

Issues seem to be resolved? I dont know what the heck I did, but the hashtag string seems to have disappeared. Here’s hoping it stays gone!

    Thanks for the speedy reply.

And no, I did not have it in custom code anywhere. Yes, I had cleared the WP super cache too.

Maybe it just needed some more time to work itself out? no idea

Might be the caching by Super cache. Kindly let me know if there was any particular reason for removing AddThis. If it was for disabling the hashtags in URL, it can be opted out from the plugin.

Honestly, I did try disabling it while the plugin was installed. No change.

I have decided to go with the WP plugin “Flare” instead.

@shannon: I believe it’s the same issue where you had to wait for a while even after uninstalling plugin. Have to be strong caching somewhere. In a normal setup it should be instant. I recommend you to try AddThis after disabling Addressbar share tracking if you want an awesome share feature without hashtag in url.
