Hi there, before going through the trouble of setting all of this up, could someone please confirm whether by using PayFast, we would be able to accept credit card payments from USA clients on our WooCommerce driven site. We are South African, but need to take USA payments as 90%+ of our clients live there. Thanks in advance.

PS: We also notice this plugin has last been updated over 2 months ago – is everything still working and will their be continued development to keep up with WordPress and WooCommerce updates or not?

  • Hi @soloraven

I’ll be happy to help here.

With PayFast, you will be able to accept payments from any country, but your store’s currency will need to be set as ZAR.

I can confirm PayFast is compatible with the latest versions of WordPress and WooCommerce, and is under continued development.

    Thanks!

Thank you for answering the question. I understand clearly now. It’s a pity about the store’s currency having to be in ZAR, we would of loved to use this – perhaps when we do a local store though.

Hi @soloraven. To clarify, while your store’s currency needs to be set to ZAR, there are various ways of offering currencies other than the base currency.

The best option for this would be WooCommerce Multi-Currency, which allows customers to make purchases on your store using their local currency (within a specific set of currencies configured by you), while leaving your base currency unaffected.

Another option would be the Currency Converter Widget. This will display prices in multiple currencies, but the transactions will actually done using your store’s base currency. This is a simpler approach, and would be the way to go if the Multi-Currency plugin doesn’t work for some reason.

I hope that was able to point you in the right direction! Let us know if you have any further questions!

@apmwebdev hey, that’s awesome news, thanks for that tip, we will definitely be revisiting PayFast then today.

Perhaps on a separate note, could you perhaps point me into the direction of who I should ask about how chargebacks are handled with payfast. We understand that fraudulent and unreasonable chargebacks are quite a problem in the ecommerce realm and would just like to get clarity on the process we would need to follow to appeal such things in the unfortunate event of us falling victim to it and we understand that this is not the place to discuss them.

    Hi @soloraven

Best route for that would be to have a look at https://www.payfast.co.za/contact and reach out to their team directly if you don’t find the answers on the site.

    Cheers,
    Neil
