    Good Day!

    Just noticed … every time we deactivate and reactivate (or delete and reinstall) your plugin, the general feature “Usage tracking” turns itself ON automatically. You plugin never remembers this particular setting, but does remember all others.

    Affected plugin path: Yoast SEO > General > Features > Usage tracking

    Click here for details.

    Please update your plugin to correct this bug. Until then, would appreciate a snippet that will keep this setting OFF at all times.

    Notes:

    (1) We reported this issue before, and still not fixed.

    (2) Please do not ask us to open a GitHub request. This notice serves the same purpose.

    Thank you!

    @jetxpert We’re sorry to hear you’re experiencing this issue with plugin. However, we weren’t able to replicate it, so it’s likely due to something specific to your site.

    Can you please confirm you are using the most recent Yoast v15.2? You can learn more about updating here: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-can-i-update-my-free-plugin/

    Also, can you confirm you are using WordPress 5.5.1? You can check by clicking on the W in the top left and selecting About. If you need to update, please check with your host provider. Please know that if you are using an older version of WordPress Core you may experience unexpected behavior with Yoast. This guide explains more: https://yoast.com/why-we-dont-support-old-wordpress-versions/
    ?
    If you have already confirmed that both Yoast SEO and WordPress are up to date and the issue is still occurring, we would next recommend performing a conflict check to determine whether another plugin or theme is interfering with the Yoast plugin.

    The fastest way to do this is to?deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme?like?Twenty Nineteen.?Test this on your development or staging site, if you have one. If not, we recommend using the?Health Check & Troubleshooting?plugin. This plugin allows you to run a conflict check?without affecting normal visitors to your site.

    If you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process:?How to check for plugin conflicts.

    @devnihil,

    Thanks for the information. We’re using the latest of everything. Plugin conflict checks performed. No dice. Still have the issue. We’ll look at this a little deeper and report here later.

    Since Yoast has both a Free and Premium version, can you confirm that the Premium version is not having this issue as well?

    Last, can you share the file path, file, and code line your plugin uses for “Usage tracking”? We may develop our own snippet to block this on a temporary basis.

    Thank you!

    We are afraid to say that we were unable to reproduce the issue on our end while using both Yoast SEO and Premium. We can confirm the plugin remembers the enable tracking toggle option whenever we deactivate and reactivates the plugin.

    On the other hand, while we are unable to confirm what exact files and line numbers you’ll need to look in the Yoast SEO plugin to create a temporary fix on your end, we do know that you can find all the source code here. You can then search for the files or codes you’ll need to see what’s going on here.

    @mazedulislamkhan,

    Thank you. You did not provide a link to the plugin’s source code, but found it.

    Can you provide the folder and file name where “Usage Tracking” is contained?

    Great plugin. Again, thank you.

    We are afraid to say that we are unable to confirm what folder and file name contains the code relevant to the “Usage Tracking” feature. You’ll need to search for the relevant code in the given repository.

    @mazedulislamkhan,

    So the developers of Yoast (your team) cannot identify the location of your own code? Can you explain why?

    We are ready to create a temporary fix to this issue and share it with the community.

    Thank you!

    @jetxpert Because this is a support forum, and not a forum for answering questions related to the plugin’s development. If you want to converse with the developers, the appropriate channel would be GitHub.
