    Hi,

thanks for the awesome shop plugin. We have set it up on our webpage and are close to the launch.
To customize the layout of the shop page I thought, that I simply edit the Shop page in the Site-builder with the block editor. Unfortunately every change I do there is not shown on the final Shop webpage. The page looks always the same and is just showing a gallery of my products.

I searched around and there are a lot of plugins which promote, that they can override the Shop templates page to show different layouts. I also found a few guides which just highlight, that I should remove the page in the WooCommerce settings -> Products -> Shop-Site dropdown to use my own created site in the Block-Editor. This is also not working, still the same page is shown.

Is this something with my theme or how is it possible to show a custom Block-Editor site on the /shop/ link? Do I really need a separate plugin to override that?

    Thanks and kind regards

    Hey @greendroid,

You’re on the right track with your approach. However, it’s important to note that the default WooCommerce Shop page is generated by WooCommerce itself, and it doesn’t use the standard WordPress editor. This is why you might not be seeing the changes you make in the block editor.

Your theme could also be a factor. Some themes have specific WooCommerce templates that might override your changes.

Rather than using a separate plugin to override this, you can create a custom template for your Shop page. This involves creating a new page template in your theme’s directory and then assigning that template to your Shop page. This new template can then be edited with the block editor, and the changes should be visible on your Shop page.

Please note that this involves editing theme files, so it’s recommended to do this on a child theme to avoid losing your changes when the theme updates. Also, always backup your site before making these changes.

I hope this clarifies your concern. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

    Hi Shameem,

thanks for your quick response. I already have a child-theme active for some other smaller adaptions on my theme. But I unfortunately don’t get it out how to change template parts.

I am using the theme “OnePress” which seems not to be a block theme I think. In the WordPress backend I don’t find “Edit Templates” or similar.

There is a woocommerce.php file there but nothing more:
    https://themes.svn.www.ads-software.com/onepress/2.3.6/woocommerce.php

Sorry, I am completely lost currently which file I need to copy over to my child theme and where I need to click then in the dashboard to open the file in the block editor to change the design.

Do you have any further advice? ??
    Thanks and kind regards

    Hello @greendroid,

Just to clarify, the shop page template (Product Catalouge) can certainly be customized in block-based themes.

Do you experience the same issue with the twenty-twenty-three theme?

Also, it would be greatly helpful if you could attach a few screenshots of how you’re editing the template so we can try replicating the same steps from our end. :?)

If you don’t already have a screenshot service installed, here are a few free options:

Look forward to hearing back from you.

    Hi Saif,

thanks for your quick response. I think this is exactly the problem. My theme “OnePress” seems NOT to be a block editor theme. Therefore I miss a lot of options. I already contacted the theme support to get this confirmed.

Can you give me the exact steps where I need to click to come to the template editing mode? Then I can try to reproduce it here.

    Thanks and kind regards

If it’s not a block-based theme, then you won’t be able to see the “Editor” tab.

Here’s where you can find/edit the template on a block-based theme:

If you’re thinking about switching to a WooCommerce-optimized block-based theme, please check this page. You might even find one similar to OnePress. :?)

Also, please note all extensions/themes sold on WooCommerce.com have a 30-day refund policy. If the product doesn’t work the way you need it or you think another product would work better, we are more than happy to provide a full refund.

Let us know if you have any other questions!

    Hi Saif,

thank you very much for your work! The video helped a lot.
I really don’t have this menue option.

When I manually try to reach the page you are mentioning (…/wp-admin/site-editor.php) it is showing an error message with: “The theme, which you are using, is not compatible with the Website-Editor”.

So really a theme issue. Hopefully the theme support can help me out at this point and I don’t need to completely switch the theme. This would mean a lot of work to get the same or better look & feel as currently.

    Thanks and kind regards

    Hello @greendroid,

You’re right, the theme support team might be able to help. I recommend contacting them directly to see if they can provide a solution. They might be able to update the theme to work with the editor, or they might have a workaround that allows you to use the editor without having to change your theme.

If that doesn’t work out, you might need to consider switching to a theme that is compatible with the website editor.

I understand that this could involve a lot of work, but it could also open up new possibilities for your website.

    I hope this helps.
