    Yes, you can, please read the FAQ, particularly this question: “I want to have the mimetype icons for a content area which is outside of the loop (a sidebar for instance). Can I?“

    Do make sure there are links to files in the content you pass to the function, otherwise MTLI will find no usable links to add icons to.
