Thanks for your question. I have just run a quick test on my “Jetpack” development system and it looks like Carousel is working properly.

Here is the simple [mla_gallery] shortcode I used:

    [mla_gallery post_parent=all mla_alt_shortcode=gallery]

Carousel, like the other Jetpack features, works by intercepting the WordPress [gallery] shortcode. MLA supports this with the mla_alt_shortcode=gallery parameter that lets you use MLA to select the items you want for the gallery, then hands control off to the [gallery] (or other shortcode) to format and display the results. With Jetpack, MLA plays no part in displaying the “thumbnail grid”.

There are many other lightbox, slideshow and carousel plugins that work in a different way. They look for the IMG tags in the gallery output and bring up a lightbox, slideshow or carosuel display when an item is clicked. Here are some earlier support topics on these alternatives:

How to use mla_alt_shortcode with begin[X] and end[/X] brackets.

I hope that I have understood your question and that the above information is of some help. I will leave this topic unresolved until I hear back from you and given you any additional help I can. Thanks for your interest in the plugin.

    Thank you for the answer.

With Jetpack, MLA plays no part in displaying the “thumbnail grid”.

That’s what I was afraid of. I love the Jetpack Carousel, but its grid layouts won’t work for me and can’t be customized. MLA lets me do the grid how I need it for different situations, but then I lose the Carousel.

Do you (or anyone else reading) know of a Lightbox or Carousel plugin that works with MLA and will display BOTH captions and descriptions below the image AND retain hyperlinks in either field (especially caption).

    Thanks.

Simple Lightbox fits the bill for me!

Simple and it shows both the caption (with links) and description in the popup. Images can be cycled through and also saved from the lightbox popup.

By the way, the Jetpack “Tiled Galleries” and “Carousel” modules both need to be disabled to have MLA format the grid and Simple Lightbox take over the lightbox. Took me a while to figure this out since there are so many Jetpack modules and I thought tiled galleries was part of carousel.

Thank you for taking the time to research the available plugins, find one that works the way you want and share your experience with all of the MLA users!
