• I have a virtual server on which I have various domains. Some of these domains use WordPress using a different installation of WordPress per domain. That works fine.

I’m about to start a new project which will have a master domain with a number of sub-domains. For this project I will have some content that is specific to the master domain only; some that is specific to specific sub domains; and some that will be shared across sub domain and master domain.

Should I make a separate installation of WordPress for each sub domain; or can a single installation handle this. If the latter how do I go about it?

Multisite can create the subdomains for you as separate sites, however the data is per site. So when you have content shared between sites, it gets messy.

Why are we trying to share data? That is, in general, bad for SEO. Linking back and forth is fine, but duplication of content is bad.
