• I have used WangGuard successfully on a single site, but now I am running a multisite. Due to this bug (which I have noticed when I manually mark a user as spam), I am concerned that all my sites will be shut down whenever a spammer registers with multiple sites (due to my use of the Multisite User Management plugin, this happens all the time, regardless of which site the user registers at).

Can you tell me whether this is going to be a problem? Or does WangGuard catch the spammer before they actually complete the registration process?

    Hi,

Yes, after 3 years seems that it will be fixed in WordPress 4.3.

WangGuard works in the same way as single site. I developed WangGuard thinking in WordPress MU (now Multisite) and BuddyPress, but working over single too.

If you want, you can use this add-on for WangGuard https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wangguard-blacklisted-words-add-on/ This will help you to control your Multisite.

    Kind regards

Yeah, unbelievable something so devastating could take so long. I keep wondering how they manage WordPress.com.

If I’m understanding correctly, WangGuard will help prevent spam registrations up front. But….my deeper question is, will the same problem exist if a spammer does get through, and I have to mark them as spam? Will WP still spam every single blog that user is associated with?

If so, I have to incorporate this into my general maintenance routine until 4.3, I guess. At least WangGuard should reduce the number of these that come through.

I also need to rethink my use of the Multisite User Management plugin, since that is responsible for registering each new user in several sites at once.

    Am I understanding this correctly?

    Hi @kalico,

Yes, WangGuard will help to prevent the spam at registration. But if a splogger is aded to a subsite and is marked as spam, the subsite will be suspended ??

I opened that bug 3 years ago and seems that it will be fixed in WordPress 4.3

    Kind regards

I knew I had seen a connection with WangGuard somewhere in my research…didn’t realize it was the original bug report. Kudos to you for catching that.

I’ll be looking forward to 4.3, but in the meantime, I’ll make some adjustments and add WangGuard. Thanks so much for your advice and information.
