Use same categories for all plugins

  • Hello,
    i recently started with WordPress and most of the things are working for me.
    I can create basic themes and create my own plugins and so on.
    But why does every plugin that you download have their own categories module.
    Is it possible to use the same (standard) categories for all the plugins?

    For example :

    1. i create categories under posts and add some posts tot those categories
    2. i have an event plugin installed and want to add events to the same categories as the posts, but that is’nt possible. I need to recreate the categories again
    3. also i want a ‘must see’ venue directory with the same categories
    4. …

    Or is this a plugin problem, and do i need to look for the perfect plugins to get that working?

    Custom Post Types can use the existing Categories and Tags — you don’t need to create custom taxonomies for them. You’d include them in the CPT’s “taxonomies” argument. I’m confused, though. When you say “create my own plugins”, are you writing plugins that create these custom post types (e.g, events) or are you using existing plugins?

    No i created some specific plugins for an other website not for this one. that was just for saying i’m not a complete newbie ??
    But here i try to use an existing plugin for events and another plugin for business locations and so on. but they all have their own taxonomy “categories” that you should make. I don’t want that, i want that they all use the same WP-core categories.

    ok, a plugin issue than ??
    so you think it is best to create Custom Post TYPE and Custom Taxonomy Types and link it all together that way?

    That’s up to you — it’s a lot of programming to duplicate one of the event systems.
