used to be great, now worse than broken
-
This used to be my go-to plugin for image galleries. I’ve installed and highly customized NGGallery on several client websites over the years. Since 2.x, though, it has not only broken down on every site and required emergency intervention, messing up my workflow and costing me and my clients valuable time and money, but it has interfered with stuff on some websites that’s completely unrelated to galleries. I’ve seen broken Visual Editors sitewide, fatal errors bringing whole sites to their knees, and other major issues over and over again.
With each new bug fix, it seems the developers introduce even more new bugs into the plugin. I don’t know how this happened, but I’m guessing that if they don’t streamline the upgrade process and simplify this plugin, it’s doomed.
Fortunately, the WordPress core functionality for images and galleries is so good now that with a bit of customization, it does everything that NGGallery used to do, so I’m working as quickly as possible to remove this beast from every client website I’ve installed it on. I’ve about 20 to go before I’ve gotten rid of it for good. I can’t recommend that anyone install this on any new site unless you see a complete turnaround in these reviews.
