• This plugin worked well after the initial installation but became totally useless after the recent updates and created a lot of extra work for us. Stay clear of this useless and outright dangerous plugin if you like your sanity.

Replaced the plugin with [moderated] which works like a charm

Looks like you just open this account today and wrote this bad review just for promoting the other plugin you mentioned in your review.

Not really, Shaon. We were very happy with your plugin until the recent updates rendered it inoperable, created issues for our client, and . . . after waiting a few days for a fix, forced us to find another solution for our client, not to mention a considerable amount of time we had to invest (i.e., eat) in re-creating an extensive library of free downloads. As a wp developer and consultant, we are only as good as the products and services that we recommend. The recent issues with your plugin splashed a lot of egg on our faces. Still, I know and understand how things can go wrong even with the best intentions. So, no hard feelings and good luck with everything.

Even still you shouldn’t mention competitive plugins in reviews.

Good point, Andrew. My mistake. Will keep that in mind. In a way, my post was less of a review and more of a very frustrated rant. Had to get it out and tell others about my horrible experience with WordPress Download Manager, that’s all. Hope we’re all ready to move on to more fun and positive stuff.

I like WP-DL Manager just for the pure fact that you can upload files directly from your server, so that means your not limited to WP’s 2MB or whatever file size they give you only. the other download plugins SUCK! This one is the best download plugin so far, but to be honest the latest update does suck, but theres a simple fix to this, and this is how I did it. I went to this link here, www.ads-software.com/plugins/download-manager/developers/, and I downgraded to an older version, I uninstalled the update and installed version 2.5.97 and it works like a charm then I followed instructions from this video, 8, so I don’t get those crazy update notifications to update anymore. SIMPLE PIMPLE!

    ?? you’re welcome.

I completely disagree with the idiotic rule that we shouldn’t mention competitive products in all reviews. As as general rule, that works fine. But in this case, this plugin has been rendered unusable and outright damaging to many, many users’ sites. If there’s a plugin out there that would ease my recovery from this disaster, I’d expect www.ads-software.com to be damn sure we could find out about it.

I realize I’m using this plugin for free and I have no right to expect support, but I think even free users deserve working software. I’m faced with the enormous task of re-uploading 200 files for member downloads because of the horribly ill-conceived “upgrade” created by the 2.7 version.

Shaon, I believe you owe us free 2.6 users a more reasonable upgrade solution than any you’ve offered so far, none of which has worked for me.

@dshafer, you don’t have to re-upload files, I explained required steps here https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/required-actions-after-you-update-to-v27-from-v26?replies=1. You are just an user and with due respect, you may not understand what is going on the background of an upgrade, I explained enough in support forum to clear about this upgrade, if you don’t like this update, get back to previous version from here https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/download-manager/developers/ or try other alternative.

I completely disagree with the idiotic rule that we shouldn’t mention competitive products in all reviews.

That’s unfortunate. See, lots of people have spammed the review sections and taken over other plugin reviews with what can only be considered spam. Even if it points to another WordPress plugin hosted in the repo.

Speaking of taking over reviews, this one has gone well off the rails and I’m closing it down.

If anyone wants to post their own review of this plugin please do so. But keep it civil: this is a free plugin and the author does not owe anyone anything.

If you do not like how the development of this plugin or the upgrades have gone then simply don’t use it.
