User fields in user's profile-Country not working

I like the new feature in JS 1.12 with the shipping and billing address copying in the user’s profile, but I am afraid the country is not working. It’s just stuck to Afghanistan. When you change it to something else (from the admin area) it does not save.

In the front end if you go to my account it displays correctly there and you can change and save, but if you do a save in the back end (which will not work anyway) then the front end view changes to Afghanistan also.

It seems you can select and save regions of countries (where available) but not whole countries, which is what it should be for addresses and not shipping zones.

I would appreciate your help.
