User got locked out

  • Hi,
    One of my site’s admin owner got locked out and not able to login as Wordfence is blocking.
    The Block reason is “You have been temporarily locked out of the system. This means you will not be able to login for a while.”

    Unlock link is also not working.

    Any help to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi @srividhyagr, thanks for your message.

    When you say the unlock link isn’t working, are they seeing any specific error text when following the link, or being directed straight to a block page? Also, is this happening for anybody else?

    Are you seeing their block in the Live Traffic page? Manual block by administrator is given as a reason when manual permanent blocking of an IP has been performed on the Wordfence > Blocking page. IPs blocked automatically by Wordfence and using the “Block IP” button on the Live Traffic page are subject to the timeout restrictions set in your Brute Force and Rate Limiting settings, so are only temporary and don’t return the same message. There is an outside chance that their IP appears on a list of bad IPs somewhere, which would also be explained in Live Traffic. In some cases, we can unblock these from our end if they’re no longer associated with malicious activity.

    If you look at the Wordfence > Blocking when they’re locked out, can you see their IP and unblock it manually?

    Hi Peter,

    Thanks for the quick response. I don’t see any block in the Live traffic.
    I do see a warning message for that user saying “Failed Login”
    I tried adding this IP in the whitelisted as well but no luck.
    Let me know if you need any other information. Thanks
