• Hi,

I have a problem that’s driving me nuts. My user images are not displaying on my site https://www.northofthirty.com. I have another site, https://www.mattsaxton.net, where my image displays perfectly. This is occurring not just on posts, but even on my welcome screen at the upper right-hand corner (you know, where it says howdy, Matt Saxton, and gives you options to edit your profile). I’ve tried everything I can think of, including deleting plugins to see if this would help, linking/unlinking wordpress.com, using gravatar (which is where I have it currently set)…everything I can think of. Here’s the thing: Yes, I’ve been in the back end (edited files) and no, I’ve not created a child theme (I know now that’s a no-no). I’ve been into my database to edit users directly through my host (gator) and it’s a long story why. Bottom line is that I don’t know if I’ve done something that I shouldn’t have done. I’ve got to think that this is simple, relatively, to fix. I’m using the Responsive theme. Any advice anyone has to help is greatly appreciated. Please understand that I’m relatively new to all of this. I’m learning as I go. apologies if I ask for clarification. And thank you!

  • Have you tried deactivating ALL plugins and switched to an unmodified default theme?

Also, just to be sure, is this all images or do you mean gravatars or something else?

No to the deactivating all plugins. I will try that. If I switch to an unmodified default theme, will I lose all my data? And if so, what is the best way to back this up first?

Switching themes is standard troubleshooting as is deactivating all plugins. Settings and options are saved in your database, so you should be able to switch back without problems.

However, you really should be making regular backups of your entire site – especially as you are modifying theme files – which really is not good – you’d be well advised to move your changes to a child theme :).

If this is a gravatar issue – have you checked that the same email is used on your gravatar account and your user account on your site?

Images everywhere else in the site work just fine. This is only user images. Right now, if I change to “mystery man” for users that don’t have a profile image, I get a mystery man for me as well as everyone else. If I try gravatar, I get a gravatar logo and nothing else (not my image on gravatar).

Just tried to deactivate all plugins. Logged out, logged back in, no difference.

    And the theme?

OK, I just switched themes. No dice. The e-mail question is a valid one. Let me check that out. And I’ll start doing backups for sure. Let me see if the e-mail change makes a difference because no, it’s not the same.

I can’t believe it. It was the stupid e-mail. Ok, now that I know why, I will be able to fix this but wow, that drove me NUTS!! Thank you ??

LOL – well, glad it wasn’t a bigger problem :). But really, get the theme situation sorted out – you’re making a big mess for yourself down the road when the theme has compatibility issues and you “can’t” update it.

Will do. I need to slow down and read a little more. You’ve been incredibly helpful. Thank you very much!
