Hi, I have Wise Chat installed. I don’t require any logging into my WordPress site. I just have people come in the chat room, create a chat-user name, and join the conversation.
But now users are reporting when they come back a week later and enter the same user name, it displays “This name is already occupied”
Can I clear out all previous user names so that when they come back, their original user name will be available to them again?
Is there a workaround for this? THANK YOU !!

    Hello,

Usernames are remembered for 24 hours and then they are free to use for another user. Maybe your users choose name that were used few hours before they joined the chat and the message is correct.

    Best regards

Hi Marcin, I just posted a similar question as have users who may have commented from their desktop but then go to use their mobile & their name is then taken/not permitted. Is it possible to disable the username reservation feature? Thanks

    Hi,

The only option is to modify the source code of the plugin. You would have to find and disable username validation feature.

Hi Marcin, many thanks for your reply & apologies for my delayed response due to xmas! I commented out the ‘check if the new username is already occupied:’ section in WiseChatAuthentication.php which worked fine initially but noticed when I left the additional devices to timeout, they then revert to a username of ‘Anonymous*’ & does not permit the user to either logout or login again. Any suggestions?
I am seriously considering purchasing the pro version if I can get this feature to work as required.
    Kind Regards,

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

It would require a deep testing of your change in order to find what is wrong with it. In future versions I am going to implement an option to disable this check.

    Best regards,
    Marcin
