User password recovery

I almost totally confused by WordPress, so please make answers totally clear. I’ve received an email saying a user has lost his password. I can find no help on this that I can make any sense out of. Do I need to do anything? If so, precisely (and in good English for a simple soul) what?

Considerate help would be much appreciated.

Does anyone know of a simpler system I could move to?
