User profile photo / image

the wp user avatar support forum sounds abysmal. the others look pretty good, thank you for the suggestions.

well, this plugin works nicely in the post, it adds the bio complete with links.

a relevant question. there is also a tab that will pull all of the author posts, a simple wp category search. but, instead of the custom photo shown in the post, it’s the gray profile avatar in the users profile. i don’t see any provision to place a photo in the user / author.

I recommend asking over at https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/avatar-manager about that.

please forget plugins. how do i add an image / gravatar to a user profile? are we saying in wp we can’t add an image without a plugin except via gravatar.org ?

Correct, by default, WordPress only supports Gravatar.

So, if you want to extend that to something else, you’ll need a plugin.

so, we use the fanciest author box plugin for a custom user profile image, user profile bio and link to all author posts

and we add another plugin, maybe the avatar manager, to replace the default grey head shot with a custom image.

I’m not sure, this was added in v1.1 of Fanciest Author Box back in 2012:

Added Photo URL field to user profiles, if it has value, that URL will be used to override Gravatar image, if left empty Gravatar will be used.
