• I want only registered users to comment. Now I get many fake registrations with bogus mail addresses. Of course these people won’t get their password, will never log in, clutter up the user list, and need to be deleted.
A good solution would be, only to enter new users into the list after they have logged in with their password for the first time. As that may be difficult to implement the next best thing would be a filter for all new users, who still haven’t logged in 24 hours after being sent the password instead of having to pick them out manually.

Another thing I miss is a means to enforce a real name rule. This used to be the regular norm on all the networks before AOL opened them up to the great unwashed and they became dominated by the plebs instead of the universities. I invite comment by anybody, but not by cowardly anonymous nobodies.

Yes, hassling and discomforting the genuine and honest seems to be the solution to everything these days. What about the colourblind and those with bad eyesight? What about those, who, when needlessly hassled by me, just take me for an inconsiderate idiot and won’t bother any more? It is what I myself do often enough.
I’d say keeping everyone in a separate background pending list until first logged in using the password and autopurging that pending list every now and again would be the far superiour and vastly more considerate solution. Until that’s implemented I’ll have to do it manually and would be grateful for a little help in filtering these candidates.

It seems I just found a solution: The plugin Register Plus Redux. Unfortunately it doesn’t work. After the verification link new users never get sent a password and can’t log in. Making them set a password on registration doesn’t work either.
But this must be a glitch, so let’s hope it’ll be rectified soon.
