Hi – i have set up a multisite and it is working well as far as I can see.
There is one main site, which is where the new uasers will register to create their own blogs.
I have set up one other site through the Network Administrator Dashboard, and it is working as well.
My qustion is this: How can I set up the registration for new users who want to make their own blogs, so the domain reads like this:
    https://www.thedomain.com/user

I know there is a meta widget in the sidebar of the main site that will allow new users to register – I am hoping there is a way to place the registration as content on a page, rather than just a tiny link in the sidebar.

All of the user registration plugins that I have found so far have been for users to register on the main site, not to create their own site within the network.

  • Are you looking to tinker with the existing wp-signup.php?

    So the existing url for
    https://www.thedomain.com/wp-signup.php
    becomes
    https://www.thedomain.com/user

You can create a page “user”, apply a page template containing as much or as little tinkering from the signup functions you like.

I guess I was not very clear. I don’t want to play with any wp code at all – I never touch the core! ??

What I want to do is (I thought) simpler. I want the main site to have only one page that I would create – the Home page – with some welcome text and a link on it to the registration page. As it stands now, the omly link to the registration page is in the sidebar, and since I want to use a fullpage template that does not do me any good.

From what I have been reading, the easiest way to do this would be to insert a link into the main page text, that would then open the registration page. I’m just going to create the page in Notepad++ and code in the link, then paste it into the editor in text view – that should work. If not, I’ll be back …

I am not suggesting you touch the core, quite the opposite.

Creating page templates can be done in a snap. And you turn templates on or off right in the post/page editor.

In Multisite, you will not be able to insert php or any highfalutin’ html into the post editor, that is why I offer going the page template route.

(Couple that with your own Child Theme variation of a standard theme from the repository and you’ll be update proof)
