I’m trying to control document access through user roles in the “Contributors” section. I set File status to Hidden and Post status to Private. Then I add Author or Subscriber as a user type in Contributors. This seems to bypass the hierarchical rights of user roles, in that Authors can then only see files where Author is listed as a role type (not OK) and Subscribers can only see files with Subscriber in the role type (which is OK). In fact if something is visible to Subscribers, it should also be accessible to the higher role type of Authors. You cannot enter both role types, only the latest is saved in the Contributor section.

Do you have any suggestions how best to deal with this?

The roles added to the contributors panel are by design not cascading. You have to add each roles specifically, which should work just fine.

Can you describe the issue you are having with adding multiply roles to your contributors list?

    Hi,

The contributors role types field retains only the author’s name and one other, the latest one entered, even if you save the page. When you reopen it, the extra entry disappears.

A workaround is to enter three role types, that way two are retained, or the extra one can be deleted. Just an extra step. Too bad there is no filter available to batch edit all documents for role types?

Yes you have discover a bug that need to be fixed. There is another work around. If you use the Batch Edit method you can add as many different role or user types as you like.

I will fix the bug as soon as possible.
