    I need to set Users in my new WP blog at a very low level role. And I am a WP novice!

    1. I want my Users to be able to only make original new comments or comment on others’ comments. Is that a “Subscriber” [“level 0”]?

    2. Is there some way to block a Subscriber from seeing the dashboard?

    Thanks

    thanks, samboll

    I actually had already looked at that documention long and hard:
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Roles_and_Capabilities
    Role Name Contributor [level 1]
    Capabilities:
    * edit_posts
    * read
    * delete_posts Since 2.1
    * level_1
    * level_0
    Role Name: Subscriber [level 0]
    Capabilities:
    * read
    * level_0

    I couldn’t see clear answers to my questions:

    [Incidentally, are WP “Posts” and WP “Comments” the same thing in the WP terminology?]

    I need my Users to be able only to
    -make their own Comments
    -edit only their own Comments
    -make a Comment on others’ Comments

    Should I make them:
    -“Subscriber” [“level 0”]
    or
    -“Contributor” [“level 1”]?

    The documentation says that Contributors can delete_posts since 2.1 – does that mean only their own Comments? or also others’ Comments?

    Also, is there some way to block a Subscriber or Contributor from seeing the dashboard?

    Thanks!

    Rick

    @think23:
    We all have to begin somewhere, and I am shortly in front of you. Figuring things out one at a time!

    Per your question there are a few ways of handling this. I would suggest getting Role Manager with creating groups and roles that go along with that group.

    Essentially what you need to do is not allow those Users to not be able to “Read”. That blocks them from the dashboard. Essentially the Mod did answer, but just threw that link at you to figure it out yourself. If you have any questions, feel free to give me a buzz.
