• Hello! I’ve been looking for a plugin on the Plugins page but apparently I didn’t find one that matches what I’m looking for, I’m curious whether it even exists.

I’ve seen a couple of optimize image plugins and articles, but they all seem to work only from the admin dashboard, so if i, as an admin upload something to my website, content or product imagery, it will work. however, what i need is a plugin that optimizes the images the website’s users upload.

let’s say there is a webshop where vendor users are able to upload their own products. they don’t necessarily have administrator rights. not all of them will take the time to resize and optimize the uploaded images, so that is why we need a plugin that would automatically do it once a vendor is uploading images.

can you please help me whether there is such a plugin? did i approach the plugin search from a wrong perspective / did i use false keywords? have you heard about anything like this before?

    thank you!

  • Hi @csontosanna

I believe there are several plugins that may do what you are looking for. I searched the plugin directory using the phrase “Optimize user image uploads” and found a few at the top of the list that will handle automatic optimizations including outside the media library e.g. Smush, EWWW Image Optimizer etc. I don’t have any personal experience using these plugins so unfortunately, I can’t give you a proper recommendation.

When selecting a plugin that will resize, optimize, and convert images to WebP, I’d also look to ensure your images are being lazy loaded which will further help to mitigate load times caused by images.

    I hope that helps!

Hi @csontosanna You can use the Smush plugin which is a very good plugin and I’m already using it. About the vendor image upload standpoint, there is a setting in Smush to auto optimize when images uploads. So you don’t need to worry to optimize every uploaded images.

    Hi @aaronrobertshaw and @alithewpdev ,

Thank you for your comments! I will definitely try Smush to see if it works the way I want it to!

I really appreciate your help! Have a great day!
